We went to the hospital today. There were not too many patients, but it is Sunday of a holiday weekend...then again...when is it not a holiday weekend in Belize?... :-)

The "students" got to talk with the patients and even hand out some Beanie Babies. Meanwhile, Mr. Nienaber and Bob (the builder...) examined the future location of the entertainment system they will be building this week!

During down time at the clinic Lan felt compelled to share her recent surgical encounter with the mutant 100 lb scrotum. She still had pictures on her digital camera which she was eager to share with the other women in our team... (The faces tell it all)

Within view of the hospital was the Capital of Belize, the brand new 55 million dollar U.S. embassy.

Since there were few patients to be seen that afternoon (it was a Sunday) many of the group were eager to get back to the Jungle Dome and Banana Bank. Dr. Villereale graciously offered to drive 1 of the rental vans back to the compound and 13 others decided to take him up on the offer. Dr. Villereale must have zigged when he should have zagged, because after 15 minutes we arrived back at the hospital for the second time that day. Spirits remained high and criticism was held to a minimum. With the help of the only Belizian in our team, Izaura, we were able to make it back to the Jungle Dome. Luckily no one was pressed for time... we were passed on the road home by several young asmatic jungle sloths. But hey...caution is something that we appreciate in the teams only Anestesiologist. This was how we finally got back to our rooms:

Once we got back, there was a variety of things to do. Some of the group went horsebackriding through the jungle, others swam, and the rest just kicked back and relaxed.

(For those of you who don't know Francesca...this is kind of a big deal...needless to say, she could not get her horse to move, let alone get near the group to take a picture...)
